Day Two West Point 13 April 03

I was worried about the early start times. Mike started at 8:30, which meant we left the house at 6:30 to get to the meet. I was tired and sleepy form the day before, and it showed. Again, I reminded myself of my three goals. I tried my best to concentrate, but the "keep moving" was hard.

As I moved through the course, I got more tired, and started to make mistakes. I made a poor choice in attacking control #3, and did not follow my usual routine. I wandered around the hill looking for the control, when I should have stayed low, and looked for it up the hill. I was trying to get away from another orienteer, and made a stupid decision.

I should have learned from that mistake, but I didn't. Again, I was distracted by another orienteer on the way to the last control. I tried to run with her, and didn't pay attention to the route. Ugh! My hit rate looks pretty bad today, since I missed 2 of 6 controls. I was also tired and slow. I spent 71 minutes on a 4.3K course.
