Day One West Point 12 April 03

I was worried about the hills and rocks, but I reminded myself that my goal was consistency. Read the contours, pay attention to the compass and keep moving.

I did OK. I had two bobbles where I drifted slightly off my planned course, but neither one cost me much time. I didn't move as fast as I would have liked; I walked most of the course. I was also hesitant in my navigation. I felt like I was moving in slow motion. But I stuck to my three reminders and managed to do the 5.3K course in 79 minutes. For the first time, I beat Gail Gagarin. I was satisfied with my run.
