Tracking my wanderlust need to get out of town once a month Track my O progress here

15 March 2003
Mike and I went to Landahl today. It was the first really warm day, nice and sunny. I wanted to get a long day in the woods while we still can.
I wanted to practice route choice, so I drew myself a course with long legs. I tried to avoid crossing the streams too often, becasue I hate crossing these streams with the steep, deep, slippery banks.
I had a terrible day in the woods. I was sleepy, and unmotivated. I did not push the pace at all (walked the whole time) although there were plenty of areas where the tree limbs and thorns made it impossible to move quickly. I made huge navigation errors, and made mistake after mistake. I spent minutes at each stream crossing, loking for the best way to get down across and up again. I wandered around; I did not orienteer.
Why do these days happen? Obviously I was tired. Second, I wasn't motivated to train, and hence never really concentrated. I also did not treat it like a competition, and did not remind myself of the things I needed to pay attention to during the course. Still, it's absolutely amazing how I can completely forget how to orienteer.
I wandered around for 95 minutes and got a sunburn to boot.
