Georgia Day Two 19 Jan 03

My legs were tired from all the hills yesterday. I knew it would be tough to keep moving today, even though the course was shorter and had less climb. But I concentrated on having another pretty clean run.

Unfortunately, all the climb came on the first three controls. I lost a lot of time as I stopped several times going up each hill. By the time I got to the third control and saw a route choice that was long (but flat) I took it without hesitating. Unfortunately, I didn't pay much attention to the control circle or the contour detail, and made a mistake here (parallel spur).

After that, I settled down and managed the rest of the course just fine (it helped that it was flatter and had trail run options). Overall, I was frustrated with my slow time, but pleased with my navigation. Once again I was second in my class, second fastest female on green. I took 84 minutes on a 5.5K course, 1.83 Mike's time.

I feel good about my orienteering. I was fairly consistent, and my mistakes were all minor. Just need to work on hill climbing fitness...

MT = 550/1000
