Tracking my wanderlust need to get out of town once a month

Track my O progress here

The first local meet of the season was held today at Shawnee Mission Park. It was a repeat of the score O from this spring: frustrating to have the same course. But I decided to try the opposite side of the lake from last time, and see if I could rack up more points.

My plan was to keep up a steady pace (I was wearing my HR monitor and it would beep if I feel below a certain % max) and to concentrate for two hours.

I did well with the pace; I only slowed down under two situations. Either I was nearing a control, slowing down to read the map; or I was in tough physical woods (such as many fallen trees limbs in a dry stream bed). Useful information to help me choose a route in the future: how tough will the terrain be?

I did so-so on the concentration. As can be expected, I did better in the beginning compared to the end. I got tired. But not as tired as I expected to be. So that was a good sign.

I didn't get nearly as many points as in the spring; my spring route choice was superior.

I'm glad I had some good O practice before next week's A meet. I'll try to get some other O training in this week after work, if possible.

MT = 210/1000
