Three Months To Go

It's time to evaluate my training. Only three months until the US champs, and I'm not where I hoped to be. I still haven't lost any weight and I haven't seen large improvements in my fitness measures. My resting HR was really high this weekend (from too much stress and too little sleep); so I just assumed it hasn't changed since May. I took the step test, and my HR was three beats higher than the last time.

But I still feel it was a good idea to concentrate on improving my base aerobic fitness this last three months. Now it is time to change tactics, and seriously train for the US Champs.

My goal for the next month and a half is to concentrate on running. I would like to be able to run 5K (continuously) by the relay in September. I found a web site that plans your training for a 5K, and I will follow this program for the next month or so. I haven't run much lately, and Mike thinks my mechanics (and muscles!) may need specific training. That's why I ran for 22 minutes straight yesterday; my training plan recommended it, and I wanted to see how it felt. I was tired by the end, and today my legs are sore. I have some training to do!

After the relay, it will be only a month and half to the Champs, and the local O season will be beginning again. I can get back in to the woods! My plan then is to concentrate on orienteering, and forget about the physical. I will have done as much as I can by then, and I'll need to get back into the O mind set.
