My 5K training called for two 11-minute runs, with a three minute walk in between. I realized in Idaho that I needed to run on uneven surfaces again. My feet were hurting after only one day back in the woods. So I ran on the rocky trails at SMP after work.

It was a good idea to run on the trails in the shade. It was a bad idea to have to run up and down hills. At the end of my second run, I was barely moving up a long steady uphill (not very steep). I was bent over and looked like a little old lady. I could have walked faster. If anyone had seen me, they wuld have wondered what the heck I was doing. I had reached my lactate threshold; my legs were burning. But I still had two minutes left in my second run. Suddenly it dawned on me: the goal was to keep moving, not kill myself. So I turned around and ran down hill!

I was out for 40 minutes total.
