Another day in Harriman. I decided to re-run a course I had run in 1993 (day two, US Champs). I was hoping to run the course faster than I had in 1993. My fitness level is similar to what it was then, but my map reading skills have improved.

It was thick in some areas of the map. I found it hard to move through the blueberry bushes, because I had to look at my feet. It was easy to trip over a rock or branch hidden in the bushes.

I was also a bit tired and unmotivated. I didn't push it to race pace. I also think, in retrospect, that I was over-reading the map detail. I took 95 minutes on the course today; compared to 85 minutes in 1993.

I was disappointed. I don't know why I couldn't (didn't) push myself. I wish I knew how to turn it on when I need to. I was also disappointed that I didn't seem to gain time based on improved navigation. I haven't improved as much as I thought I had. I'm bummed.
