On Tuesday, Dec. 25, Mike and went for a run together on the river trail in Lawrence. It was nice to go together. On the way out, we jogged 2 minutes, then walked one. Mike was able to keep his HR around 126; mine would go as high as 150 on the jogging. After 30 minutes, we turned around and split up. I returned with 2 minutes jogging, two minutes walking. By now my HR was up to 160 and beyond after jogging; it took two minutes for it to come back down. I was moving for one hour. It was tough, and my legs were tired at the end.

On Monday, December 24, I ran around the SMP test loop. It wasn't an all-out assault on my PR. Instead, I tested Mike's theory about keeping a steady pace. He felt my time could be faster if I kept a steady rate, instead of blowing out too fast in the beginning. Based on my HR during O runs, I decided to keep it between 150 and 155 throughout the loop. I was definitely walking more in the beginning, but I was able to walk up all the hills on the second half of the course without stopping. However, I had one of my slowest times ever: 29:10.
