I ran a local Possum Trot meet today at Wyandotte. As I expected, the course went up and down (and up and down and up and..) the big hills. The navigation was easy, due to the many roads and trails in the the thin strip of woods around the lake. So, my navigation was fine.

I wore Mike's HR monitor today. Afterwards, we downloaded the data and looked at my HR during the course. My average HR was 158. This is while walking, not running. My HR went up and down quite a bit; if I looked at the map, I bet it corresponds with up and down hill. What I'd like to do one year from now is run a race (as opposed to walk) with a constant HR of around 158. In other words, 1) improve fitness so that I can maintain a 158 HR while running and 2) have a consistent effort throughout a race.

I don't know how well I did compared to the winner, since I don't know the winning time. Dan ran 43 minutes; I ran 76. But Gary Thompson started just as I finished, and he could have beat Dan. I guess I was about 1.77 of the winner's time. I'll update my chart once I know the winning time.
