Time to start my public training log. My goal for the year is to improve my physical fitness, so that I may perform as well as I can at the 2001 Oringen and the US Relay Champs. Currently, I am in sad shape. I get tired on a course, which causes me to both slow way down, and make more mistakes. I also find it hard to recover from a physcal effort, so multiple day events are very hard. At the 2000 US Champs, I had a very good day (for me) on day one. Day two was a disaster, in terms of both time and mistakes. If I am going to do well at the Oringen, I must be in better shape.

I plan to improve my conditioning: 1) gradually, by beginning to use the NordicTrack and step aerobics; then progressing to 2) slow jogging. I intend to increase the duration and speed of my running until I can run (not walk) 10K.

To gauge my progress, I am competing on the long course at all local PTOC events. On a green course, I usually take twice Mike's time. I'd like to be twice as long as Mike on a red course, and hopefully, faster than that, before the Oringen. Also, I plan to set up a course or loop on local maps, and time myself at regular intervals.
